The Australian Ballet School
Change the world stage – Montana’s Story.
Young dancers travel from all over the country, and overseas, to study at Australia’s national ballet academy, The Australian Ballet School.
Many students are in their teens when they move away from their family and are billeted with families or move into shared accommodation with other students. With places at the school awarded purely on merit, many students rely on bursaries or scholarships to pay for thier tuition and expenses.
To better support their students, the Australian Ballet School launched Project Assemblé, aimed at raising money to fund a new boarding house for students who move to Melbourne to study at the school, and provide further support through bursaries, scholarships and support programs.
Blueboat was engaged to tell the Australian Ballet School’s story through film, to share with patrons and supporters.
Our starting point was learning the stories of students who have moved to Melbourne to study at the Australian Ballet School. We decided to focus the film on Montana, an exciting young graduate of the Australian Ballet School who is just about to start her career with the Australian Ballet.
Filming took place in the School’s rehearsal spaces and around Melbourne. The soundtrack features one of the School’s live accompanists playing piano in rehearsal.
The film was used for the Australian Ballet School’s Christmas Appeal and has helped the School’s philanthropy team to start conversations with donors about the difference they can make in students’ lives.
